Kia just unveiled the 2027 EV3 at the New York International Auto Show, and it's the electric crossover the subcompact segment has been waiting for. Built on the same 400V E-GMP platform that powers the award-winning EV9, the EV3 brings flagship technology and serious range into a compact, city-friendly package.

The EV3 enters one of the fastest-growing segments in Canada - subcompact SUVs - with a clear mission: make electric driving accessible, practical, and genuinely enjoyable. It's the third model in Kia's 2026 EV rollout, joining the EV4 sedan and EV5 family SUV. The EV3 is expected to arrive at Canadian dealerships late in the third quarter of 2026.

The EV3 offers two battery options. The base Light trim uses a 58.3 kWh battery with front-wheel drive, rated at 354 kilometres of range. Step up to Wind, Land, GT-Line, or GT-Line Limited, and you get the long-range 81.4 kWh battery, which pushes range to 482 kilometres (FWD). All-wheel drive is optional on these trims and comes standard on the performance-focused GT.

Charging is fast. The 58.3 kWh battery powers from 10 to 80 percent in 29 minutes using a DC fast charger, while the 81.4 kWh battery does the same in 31 minutes. The EV3 features a native NACS charging port, giving you access to Tesla's Supercharger network across North America.

Kia's i-Pedal 3.0 technology lets you control speed and bring the vehicle to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal. It now works in reverse, and the i-Pedal Memory function remembers your last setting. Smart Regenerative Braking adapts to driving conditions to recapture energy.

The EV3's Macpherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear geometry deliver a smooth, planted ride. Engineers added sound absorption throughout the body and applied damping materials to reduce noise. Cargo space is generous: 740 litres behind the rear seats, which fold 60/40 flat. A standard two-position luggage board provides underfloor storage, and there's a 25-litre frunk up front. An optional Smart Power Tailgate opens automatically via Smart Key, with adjustable opening height and speed.

Technology That Keeps You Connected

The EV3's Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) offers robust connectivity and entertainment features enhanced remotely through over-the-air (OTA) software updates. Kia's Digital Key 2.0 lets you lock, unlock, and start the vehicle using a compatible smartphone.

Available features include a 12-inch head-up display, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and Surround View Monitor. The EV3 also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, turning the battery into a power source for external devices - laptops, coffee makers, e-bikes, or campsite lighting.

Safety Systems That Work in the Background

The EV3 comes standard with eight airbags, including rear side airbags. Forward Collision Avoidance is standard, designed to apply automatic emergency braking to help avoid collisions or reduce impact severity. Hands-on Detection (HOD) senses contact with the steering wheel and provides alerts if your hands are no longer detected.

Two advanced applications - FCA Junction Turning (FCA-JT) and FCA Junction Crossing (FCA-JC) - monitor for oncoming vehicles when turning left at intersections and vehicles approaching from the sides when driving straight through intersections.
